Who Are We: Our Origin Story
Furniture Barn USA is a 100% woman owned and operated small business and it’s vast catalog of items makes it perfect for anyone looking for a Poly Lumber Adirondack Chair, a beautiful Cedar Swingbed, a rustic bed frame with a matching dresser and nightstands, or even small farmhouse decor pieces. But how did we get here?
Where We Began:
It all started in 2009, the Kunkle’s were building their home in rural Pennsylvania and they contracted some local Amish craftsmen to help them construct their home. One Amish craftsman asked if they (the Kunkles) could help them sell their furniture online. Having a background in sales, they knew they could sell Amish furniture, their only question was how? The Amish don’t use modern technology, such as cell phones, internet, or, in most cases, even fax machines. This makes communicating with them difficult. After some brainstorming, they decided to start small with outdoor picnic tables and some rustic indoor beds.
After each sale, they would travel to the Amish builder’s location personally to pick up the product. They brought it back to their home and packaged and shipped it themselves out of their horse barn. This is where the name “Furniture Barn USA” came from. They created their own website for Furniture Barn USA and listed products on Amazon and eBay.
After several years as a successful retail business, they decided to branch into taking on Commercial clients. So in 2017, “The Amish Furniture Company” was born. Originally, it was its own site and then later was added as a segment to Furniture Barn USA’s site. It’s designed specifically as a wholesale side of our business for other businesses and organizations to accommodate their bulk orders.
Where We Are Now:
After thirteen plus years in business, Furniture Barn USA has changed significantly. We’ve implemented a drop ship model, which takes the product directly from the Amish craftsmen who build, package, and ship the item, to the customer. We’ve grown from only working with a couple local Amish builders to over thirty Amish craftsmen. They are located throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the state of Indiana. We also work with one Mennonite builder and a few English builders. We’re very proud that all of our products are built in the USA. When you look through our site, you’ll see many well know brands like A&L Furniture, Berlin Gardens, LuxCraft, and Finch, as well as thousands of items that Furniture Barn USA sells exclusively.
In addition to listing on eBay, Amazon, and our home site, we also sell our items on Houzz, Overstock, and Wayfair.
After starting The Amish Furniture Company, we’ve had the pleasure of working with several recognizable businesses, including Anakeesta Theme Park, Twin Peaks Restaurants, and The Indiana University of Pennsylvania to name a few. Every year, the The Amish Furniture Company grows as new businesses and organizations contact us. We love working with new clients while helping existing clients with new projects!
Our catalog continues to expand as we add more builders and our current builders develop new products. It now includes both small and large items, indoor and outdoor furniture, and natural, locally sourced wood and Poly Lumber.
