The What and How of Poly Lumber
Poly Furniture has become very popular over the past decade, but what is Poly Lumber? How is it made and used?
What is Poly Lumber:
Poly Lumber is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is a type of plastic. For example, milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, and other common household items are all made from HDPE, and it’s these items that are recycled and used in the production of Poly Lumber.
How Poly Lumber is Made:
First, the recycled containers are all sourced, cleaned, and shredded into very small pieces before being melted to create small pellets. Next, the pellets are then melted again and mixed with color pigments and UV and antioxidant protection. Then, the melted color mixture is formed into plank molds to create boards.
Poly Lumber Furniture:
Our builders craft outdoor furniture with these Poly Lumber boards, but they also use them to create dog and cat bowls, bird houses and feeders, and many other items! They cut, bend, and shape each piece to make the most beautiful piece of furniture for you!
We offer a variety of colors and textures, including a natural finish that makes it look and feel like real wood. Our Poly Furniture can be created to match any of your current decor or you can use your imagination to create your own masterpieces!
Poly Furniture does cost more than wood furniture, but when it’s taken care of properly it can last for decades. It won’t fade, rust, crack, or peel, and you won’t need to stain or paint it. A main reason Poly Furniture is so popular is because it’s almost completely maintenance free and durable. It’s also Eco-friendly, safe, fade-resistant, and tough enough to withstand almost any type of weather. Plus, it’s resistant to water, mildew, moisture, insects, chemicals, and repels surface stains.
Just keep in mind that even though this type of furniture does not attract insects, it is not animal resistant or “chew proof.” So, make sure to keep your Poly Furniture safe and away from all animals like squirrels, rabbits, cats, and dogs when it’s not in use.
